Botox After Care
If you have gotten botox before, you know that it is a simple process. It is generally easy to recover from, but there are ways you can optimize your treatment. The more you follow the aftercare plan, the better your results will be.
Exercise
One of the first things you will be advised on after receiving Botox is exercise. You should not exercise for at least four hours after your treatment. If you participate in any kind of extreme exercise that raises your heart rate to over 130, you should wait 24 hours. Working out increases blood flow making it more likely for you to swell after treatment. It can also cause your injection to defuse leaving you with less than optimal results.
Touching Your Face
It is okay to touch your face gently, but you should not rub it. This means you can not receive any kind of facial massage for a full 24 hours. You do not want to risk the injection moving to undesirable areas of the face or dissolving completely.
Laying Down
You should avoid lying down for at least four hours after receiving Botox. Laying down and bending over can cause Botox to spread. If you do not follow this aftercare tip you will have more bruising at your injection site. You would also risk spreading your treatment and ending up with botox in different areas than what you wanted. This could cause complications if you aren’t careful.
Don’t Drink Alcohol
Alcohol increases the risk of bruising after receiving Botox treatment. You should avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours before and after you receive Botox. The drinks can wait for tomorrow, take care of your treatment sites for the best results.
Skincare
We normally never recommend that you skip skincare, but receiving Botox injections is an exception. You should avoid rubbing on your face in any manner and this includes skincare. Botox takes time to settle in, so for the first 24 hours, you should avoid scrubs, peels, and other facial toners. It is safe to use a moisturizer or use another skincare regimen that can be applied gently. Ensure that you do not push on your skin at all if you choose to do any type of skincare.
Makeup
Just as you can not push on your face to apply moisturizer, you can not push on your face to apply makeup. If you want to apply mascara, you can. Make sure you do not rest your hand on or around the treated area. It is essentially impossible to apply any other type of makeup without pushing on your face. Wait 24 hours before you wear makeup.
Rest and Restore
After receiving Botox, you should rest and take the time to let your face heal. You do not want to risk moving or dissolving your treatment. Botox is generally easy to heal from as long as you follow the essential steps to recovery. There is no downtime and you can return to work and most other activities immediately after receiving Botox.
