What to Expect at your Laser Hair Removal Appointment

Have you been thinking about getting Laser Hair Removal but want to know about the process? We can tell you exactly what to expect at your appointment when you come to Infinity Med-I-Spa

Laser Hair Removal is a medical process that removes unwanted hair. It can be a great option for those who have unwanted hair that they no longer want to maintain or for those who are prone to razor burn and ingrown hairs. Laser Hair Removal can lower the negative results of ingrown hairs from other hair removal options.

Before Your Session:
Some great tips to help you prepare for your Laser Hair Removal before you come in for your appointment:

  • Stay out of the sun – It is best to wait until you have let your tan fade from the natural sun or even a sunless tan. Laser Hair Removal with a tan can cause the skin to lighten in the area where the removal is being done.
  • Abstain from plucking, waxing, and electrolysis – These forms of hair removal interfere with the hair follicle and can make the Laser Hair Removal process less effective. Shaving is a fine form of hair removal to use before your Laser Hair Removal appointment because it preserves the hair follicle unlike plucking, waxing, or electrolysis.

When You Arrive:
Upon your arrival for your appointment, the hair in the area being treated may be trimmed. This is to better see the area needing to be treated. You may also be fitted for goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beam. This is especially important if you are receiving Laser Hair Removal on your upper lip or chin.

During Your Session:
During your appointment, the doctor will use a handheld device that sends pulses of light into the hair. This pulse of light disables the hair follicle from further hair growth. You could feel some discomfort during the procedure similar to a pinprick. This sensation should not last long. Depending on the area of treatment your session can last more than an hour.

After Your Session:
Once your appointment is completed it is important to take care of your skin for the best results. If you start to feel some of the side effects you can apply ice to the treated area or your doctor might suggest aloe or lotion. It is also best to avoid any sun exposure, either natural sun or sunless tanning. The removal process can vary from person to person. It may take multiple removal sessions to get the full effects of the hair removal.

After your session, you can experience some temporary side effects that can include skin irritation such as; discomfort, redness, swelling, and pigment changes.
